-we finished reading "Tuesday of the Other June", discussing direct characterization, indirect characterization and inferences. Students read aloud to the class to develop good rate, clarity, accuracy and expression.
-we also discussed Camp details. Most of my students are attend tomorrow. Don't forget to dress for the weather, were comfortable hiking shoes, a lunch, a snack and to be picked up at 5:15 at the Middle School! :)

We discussed the word empathy, and we did a small group activity to map out how to be empathetic in a variety of situations.

Social Studies
Thursday
Today we:
-Watched a 16 min. video about early explorers in the Americas
-Wrote a journal entry from the point of view of one of the explorers, a native, or the Queen (turned in at the end of class)
Homework: Yesterday students were assigned a Civilization assignment. Students may draw or write about the 5 parts of a civilization (see vocab if you can't remember the 5). Students may draw or write about a current civilization, like the US or they may create their own civilization - have fun!!

-read through the "Dear Mrs. Dobb" assignment
-practiced filling out planners

-added examples of respect, responsibility and resourcefulness
-worked in groups on using word in a story problem to know what operation for solving

We are remembering 9/11 by watching a video clip on CNN student news. We also finished notes from the "Societies of the Americas" section. Students then had two options to show what they learned about civilizations.
Option one: Draw the 5 parts of a current civilization or a made up civilization, must be detailed and colored.
Option two: Write about the 5 parts of a current civilization or a made up civilization.
Be ready to share your civilization drawing or story tomorrow.

Science- Lillmars 9/10
Today in Science, the students...
1) took their microscope parts quiz
2) started their "CIA Training" Session. This session taught them more about accurately drawing the tiny creatures and fibers we are able to see through our microscopes.
HW:
1) Tomorrow we go to the pond during Science! Wear tennis shoes!
2) We will continue our CIA manuals on Thursday. If you have something microscopic at home that you'd like to get a closer look at (dog hair, flea, etc) feel free to bring it into class on Thursday!

Today in math we did a textbook scavenger hunt to get familiar with our book. Mrs. Chambers' classes turned in their 'Dear Mrs. Chambers' letters and have no homework. The homework for Mr. Luhmann's classes is to write a "Dear Mr. Luhmann' letter.
